Let’s Talk Turkey…

…or other large birds, at the 2012 Eastwood Eagle Watchers’ Picnic!

It is time for the third annual picnic with the Eastwood Eagle Watchers. We will be gathering on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the large shelter near the Overlook Parking area of Huffman MetroPark, just off Ohio Route 4, east of Huffman Dam. (Note, this is the upper lot, not the one near the lake.) I realize this is not part of Eastwood MetroPark but as the Eastwood shelters are smaller, very popular with families, and knowing that we cannot reserve the shelters at either park, this is where we will be. Huffman Dam offers a nice overlook of the well field and Jim or Cindy may just make an appearance.

Many of you have inquired about this mysterious enigma called the Eastwood Eagle Watchers and have asked about our chief photographer, Roger Garber, and how he gets those amazing shots. Well, he and his camera will be there. (He won’t leave home without it.) We will discuss Bald Eagles in general and our local eagle family specifically. We hope that some of our partners from the Boonshoft Museum’s eagle-cam project will be on hand as well. It should be fun to get to know each other a little and put faces to names. Bring your camera and binoculars in case Jim, Cindy or a flying eaglet happens by.

Now here are the details: We will meet, rain or shine, at that shelter at  1:00 PM. You should bring your own food and beverage as we have no idea how many people may show up. Also you may want to bring along a folding chair just in case. There are several picnic tables in the shelter but again we have no idea how many folks may come. There is a large grill next to the shelter that Jim Wilson, our master griller, will have fired up should you need to use it.

We really do look forward to meeting many new friends during the picnic and just having a wonderful time together. I hope to see you there because you know what they say about “birds of a feather”.

  1. I am sorry I will have to miss this gathering, as I am scheduled to work that Saturday. I understand the Decorah Eagles group will be picnicing on June 23 (a little to far for this homegrown gal).

Will you be planning this next year for June 29th, the 2nd Saturday after Father’s day?

  2. Sorry you can’t make it. Next year is too far away to know the date for sure. Let’s hope both Eagles nests do as well next year!
